Food safety measures guarantee the hygiene and safety of the food we consume and reduce the number of illness originated by contaminated food. For this reason, food safety is a critical factor during the production and commercialization of food products.
The FUMEC Food Safety program works with small and medium sized Mexican companies in order to improve their food processing and handling practices, comply with national and international quality regulations. As a consequence, the companies served by FUMEC have improved their capacity to commercialize their products both at national and international levels.
The aim of this program is to strengthen the Mexican food industry competitiveness by implementing food safety management systems. FUMEC offers food companies advice to develop their entrepreneurial and productive capacities. Additionally, the Foundation facilitates technology transfer and training to use that technology. All this is possible thanks to the partnerships generated by FUMEC between producers, government and academic institutions.
In the last five years, the Foundation has also offered advice in food safety processes to honeybee production companies in the Mexican states of Tlaxcala, Estado de México, Oaxaca and Yucatán, which has impacted the competitiveness of the apiculture sector in several regions of the country. In this manner, FUMEC has helped to consolidate the Honeybee Consortium Industrial Plant known as Tlaxcala Honey, which besides taking care of the honey safety has implemented food safety best practices within the company.
