During the last five years, the aerospace industry in Mexico has experienced significant growth throughout the country. Today, there are 194 companies in Mexico working in the fields of manufacturing, design engineering, and maintenance, according to figures from the Mexican Federation of Aerospace Industries (FEMIA). In 2008 the export volume of this sector was 3.4 trillion dollars, and it’s estimated that by 2009 this figure will exceed 4 billion.
Mexico has begun to receive major international companies in this sector, and different regions of the country are hatching plans to grow into industry leaders. This expansion represents an increase in demand for skilled human resources to meet the needs of the industry.
FUMEC has found significant opportunities in this sector through the articulation of its value chain, promoting projects that strengthen existing capabilities and identifying niches and growth opportunities. Some of the lines of action to follow are:
- Collaboration to establish a framework for the strategic development of this sector.
- Identification of specific projects of support, acceleration, and linkage aimed at the companies in this sector.
